Robert Kennedy Jr suspends campaign and backs Trump

Just hours after receiving an endorsement from third-party candidate Robert Kennedy Jr Jr., Donald Trump announced that if he becomes president again, he will release all the remaining documents related to the assassination of Robert Kennedy Jr . He also said he would create a new commission to investigate presidential assassination attempts, including the one against him in July.

At a rally in Glendale, Arizona, Trump also promised to set up a panel of experts to work with Kennedy to investigate childhood health problems if he wins the election. The recent attempt on Trump’s life is already being investigated by the Secret Service and the FBI.

Kennedy, a well-known anti-vaccine advocate and member of a famous Democratic family, joined Trump on stage, receiving cheers from the Republican crowd. Earlier that day, Kennedy announced he was ending his third-party presidential campaign and endorsing Trump. Kennedy’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, had mentioned that staying in the race could lead to a win for Kamala Harris because they would take votes away from Trump. Kennedy said he would remove himself from the ballots in key swing states but stay on the ballot in others.

At the rally, Robert Kennedy Jr praised Trump, saying he would “make America healthy again” and protect against totalitarianism. Trump thanked Kennedy for his support, mentioning Kennedy’s famous father and uncle, who were both prominent Democrats.

However, some of Kennedy’s family members, including his sister Kerry Kennedy, criticized his support for Trump, calling it a betrayal of their family’s values. Five of Kennedy’s siblings issued a joint statement condemning the endorsement and expressing their support for the Democratic ticket of Harris and Walz.

In Arizona, where the rally took place, over 100 people were treated for heat exhaustion while waiting to get inside, with some requiring hospital treatment.

Kennedy’s campaign has officially requested to be removed from the ballot in Arizona and other states, but in key battleground states like Michigan, Nevada, and Wisconsin, it’s too late for his name to be taken off.

Trump’s proposal to work with Kennedy on investigating children’s health issues is notable given Kennedy’s controversial views on vaccines and health. Kennedy has been a major spreader of vaccine misinformation and other false health claims, including that vaccines cause autism and that chemicals in water can make children transgender.

Some of Kennedy’s supporters are disappointed by his endorsement of Trump, as they were looking for an alternative to the two-party system and aren’t willing to vote for Trump. Kennedy has previously criticized Trump, calling him names and questioning his leadership, and Trump has also attacked Kennedy in the past. However, at the Glendale rally, Trump acknowledged their past differences but expressed support for Kennedy. He even claimed that Kennedy would have defeated Joe Biden if he had stayed in the Democratic primary.
