The Democratic National Convention in Chicago is over, and now the hard work begins.
The convention was full of excitement, with performances from famous artists like Pink and John Legend, and speeches by big names like Oprah Winfrey and the Obamas. On Thursday, the energy peaked as Vice President Kamala Harris accepted the Democratic nomination, with people waving flags and cheering her on.
But now, the focus shifts to the upcoming election, with only about 70 days left. Democrats are energized, especially after strong support for Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. The party is determined not to repeat the mistakes of 2016, where many voters became overconfident.
Harris reminded everyone that she’s faced tough challenges before and that the future is worth fighting for. Barack and Michelle Obama both expressed their excitement for Harris but stressed the importance of turning that enthusiasm into action. Michelle warned against becoming complacent, saying that the real work is just beginning. Barack echoed this, urging everyone to do their part by getting involved in the campaign.
Former President Bill Clinton also cautioned against underestimating the difficulty of the election. He reminded everyone that they’ve lost before when they got distracted or too confident.
Now that the convention is over, the real test for Democrats is whether they can turn this energy into action and help Harris win the election. We’ll see how it plays out in the next two months.
