In a last-minute surprise, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris made an appearance on the U.S. sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live, joining Maya Rudolph, who was portraying Harris herself.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Harris sat down across from Rudolph, who greeted her warmly, saying, “It is nice to see you, Kamala.”
Harris then took a playful jab at her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, referencing a viral video from earlier in the week where Trump was seen struggling to climb into a garbage truck in Wisconsin. “I’m just here to remind you that you’ve got this,” she told her comedic counterpart. “You can do something your opponent cannot do — like open doors.”
The duo went on to urge voters to “Keep Kamala and carry-on-ala,” emphasized their shared “belief in the promise of America,” and capped the sketch with the iconic line, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday night!”
Harris’s appearance, just days before Election Day, comes as part of her recent media blitz. She has also appeared in interviews with Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper and radio personality Charlamagne Tha God.
As of Saturday evening, polling averages from RealClearPolitics showed a razor-thin race, with neither candidate holding a lead of more than three points in any of the seven critical battleground states.
On Sunday, Harris is set to campaign in Michigan, while Trump will make appearances in key swing states, including Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia.
