Gus Walz brought to tears, shares emotional moment with father Tim during DNC speech: ‘That’s my Dad’

“That’s my dad!”: Gus Walz tearfully cheers on his father as he accepts Democratic VP nomination

Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Tim Walz’s son, Gus, stole the spotlight during his father’s speech at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. The emotional moment occurred when Gus was brought to tears as his dad spoke, and the two shared a heartfelt exchange.

Walz told his family, “Hope, Gus, and Gwen, you are my entire world,” while discussing the fertility treatments his wife underwent to have children. The camera showed Walz’s family getting emotional, with Gus wiping away tears and pointing at his dad.

Gus then stood up, clapping and continuing to cry. He seemed to say, “That’s my Dad.”

The touching moment received widespread praise on social media. MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle tweeted, “Forget politics. If you aren’t moved seeing 17-year-old Gus Walz in tears watching his Dad on stage as the Vice Presidential nominee, then please just move on.” Former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also showed support, tweeting, “Team Gus Walz.”

Gus, 17, is Walz’s younger child and a senior at St. Paul Central High in Minnesota. Last year, Tim Walz proudly shared on Instagram that Gus had just passed his driver’s license exam.
