Wendy Williams Interview Blasting Nicole Murphy Goes Viral

Wendy Williams Seen for First Time in a Year Following Aphasia and Dementia Diagnoses

Fans of Wendy Williams, the former talk show host, have been wondering about her whereabouts following the release of a two-part Lifetime documentary earlier this year. Recently, Williams, 60, was spotted in public for the first time since her private legal and medical issues became public knowledge.

Last week, Williams visited Bolingo Balance, a Newark, New Jersey herbal supplement and holistic health store. Store owner Víctor Bowman shared photos on Instagram and Facebook of Williams and her 24-year-old son, Kevin Hunter Jr. “Wendy Williams came to my store,” Bowman wrote, calling her a “Queen” in his caption. Hunter responded with supportive emojis, indicating his hope for his mother’s recovery.

This marks the first time Williams has been seen in public since her team announced in February that she had been diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Shortly after, her health struggles were chronicled in the docuseries Where Is Wendy Williams?, which shows her battle with her declining health and her eventual admission to a treatment facility. The documentary also features her family discussing her dementia diagnosis and advocating for changes to the guardianship placed on her in 2022.

Williams’ Diagnoses

According to the documentary, Williams’ son Hunter stated that she was diagnosed with “alcohol-induced” dementia due to excessive drinking affecting her brain. However, her team’s official statement described her condition as primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia. Frontotemporal dementia is characterized by changes in thinking, behavior, movement, language, and emotions due to damage to the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes, with its exact cause still unknown. Aphasia, on the other hand, impairs the ability to express and understand language, as well as reading and writing, often caused by damage to language areas of the brain due to a stroke, injury, tumor, or neurological disease.

Guardianship Controversy

In the documentary, Williams’ family criticizes the court’s decision to appoint a guardian to oversee her finances in 2022, arguing that a family member should be in charge. In February, the identity of Williams’ temporary guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, an attorney specializing in guardianships, was revealed when she filed a lawsuit against A+E Networks to halt the release of the documentary. Morrissey argued that Williams was not capable of consenting to the terms of the filming contract and claimed the documentary portrayed Williams in a humiliating manner.

Despite the lawsuit, an appellate judge ruled that blocking the documentary’s airing would violate the First Amendment, and Lifetime proceeded with broadcasting Where Is Wendy Williams? on February 24 and 25. The legal battle over the documentary continues.

Williams’ show The Wendy Williams Show faced numerous production delays in late 2021, with guest hosts stepping in during her absence due to Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder. In 2022, the show was canceled, and Williams has since kept a low profile.
