(NewUSD) – A portion of the Centre Court audience showed Novak Djokovic “disrespect” after making it to the Wimbledon quarterfinals during his match against Holger Rune.
The seven-time winner advanced to the round of eight after defeating the world’s No. 15 in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, 6-2, in what was expected to be a difficult battle.
A focused audience continued to support the Dane as the well-known “Ruuuuuuune” chant continued.
In an odd tirade, Novak Djokovic accuses Wimbledon supporters of “disrespect”: When he was questioned on the court after the match, Djokovic seemed to hear the jeers directed at him and returned the favor.Retaliating Against “Disrespectful” Wimbledon Supporters, Novak Djokovic
When asked whether he participated in the interaction with the SW19 supporters, Djokovic said, “Yes, I would want to express my sincere gratitude to everyone of the fans who have shown their support and stayed here tonight. I’m quite grateful for it.
“And have a great evening to everyone who has chosen to treat the athlete disrespectfully—in this case, myself. It was an amazing night. Happy evening. Yes.
Djokovic has done this previously; the Serb’s reaction and the audience support during the pair’s 2021 U.S. Open encounter were identical.
He was interrupted by Djokovic, who informed him that the fans were only making remarks about Rune and not in any way demeaning him. They would always be, and they were. I’m not required to concur. He interrupted the question by saying, “No, no, no.”
“I know they were supporting Rune, but that’s still an excuse to jeer. Listen, I know that because I’ve been on the road for almost 20 years. I understand all the techniques and how it operates, so it’s all right.
In an odd tirade, Novak Djokovic accuses Wimbledon supporters of “disrespect”: “I focus on the civilized people who come to watch tennis tonight and take pleasure in the game. I also appreciate the players’ efforts here and like tennis. The situations in which I played were much more threatening. Trust me. I can’t be reached by you people.”
After Taylor Fritz defeated Alexander Zverev in five sets in the previous match, Djokovic was forced to wait until 7 p.m. local time before he could take the court.
Players find it difficult to handle that kind of “tension,” but Djokovic was happy to play at “important moments” in order to go on.
His words were, “I’m very pleased.” I don’t believe he has performed at his peak, to be honest. He lost all 12 of the major spots, and I believe this affected him academically. It was a really harsh start for him. Waiting all day to play on the court is never easy. With every hour that goes by, the stress increases. You’re finding it more and more difficult to leave the court.
In my opinion, I have acted adequately in pivotal situations. I stayed resilient, facing many break focuses both in the third set and when serving for the next set.
“Things might have looked a piece changed in the event that I dropped those help games, however better believe it an extremely strong exhibition eventually and exceptionally glad to get past in three sets.”
