K-pop idol Taeil departs NCT amid sexual abuse allegations
Taeil, member of K-pop boy band NCT, exits following sexual crime accusations, his label confirms.
South Korean singer Taeil has departed from the K-pop group NCT following allegations related to an unspecified sexual crime, as announced by his agency, SM Entertainment, on Wednesday.
In a statement released on X (formerly Twitter), SM Entertainment confirmed Taeil’s exit from NCT after being informed of the criminal accusation against him. The nature of the crime has not been disclosed.
The agency underscored the gravity of the situation, noting that after discussions with Taeil, it was mutually decided that he would no longer participate in the group’s activities. SM Entertainment also confirmed that Taeil is cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation.
Taeil was a member of NCT, a globally recognized South Korean boy band celebrated for its experimental music and diverse subunits, including NCT 127, where Taeil was recently active.
Although he has stepped away from group activities, reports suggest that Taeil’s contract with SM Entertainment remains in place. The allegations against him have not been independently verified, and the police have declined to comment.
