Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada: Mexican drug lord arrested in US: Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the leader of Mexico’s Sinaloa cartel and one of the most powerful drug lords in the world, was taken into custody by US federal agents in El Paso, Texas.

The criminal organization was founded by Zambada, 76, and Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, who is currently in prison in the United States.

Captured with Zambada on Thursday was Guzman’s child, Tesla stock tumbles after its profit plunged Joaquin Guzman Lopez, said the US equity division.

Prosecutors in the United States indicted Zambada in February on a charge of conspiring to produce and distribute fentanyl, a drug that is more potent than heroin and has been blamed for the opioid crisis in the United States.

Subtleties of the captures of the two men stay indistinct, yet it seems they flew into the US.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Zambada was tricked into boarding the plane by a high-ranking Sinaloa member after a months-long operation by Homeland Security Investigations and the FBI, citing officials from Mexico and the United States.

The newspaper went on to say that Zambada thought he was going to look at secret airfields in Mexico.
According to the New York Times, officials stated that Guzman Lopez “lured” Zambada onto a private plane under “false pretenses.”

According to Fox News Correspondent Bryan Llenas, who cited sources from law enforcement, Zambada was under the impression that the plane would land south in Mexico, but in fact, it flew north and landed in El Paso.
Mr. Llenas added that Guzman Lopez turned against Zambada and surrendered to US authorities because he “blamed Mayo for the capture of his father.”

US Attorney General Merrick Garland stated in a written statement on Thursday evening that the two men are the leaders of “one of the most violent and powerful drug trafficking organizations in the world.”
“The Justice Department will not rest until every single cartel leader, member, and associate responsible for poisoning our communities is held accountable,” he added. “Fentanyl is the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced.”

Fentanyl has previously been identified as the leading cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45 by US authorities.

For Zambada’s capture, the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) had been offering a reward of up to $15 million (£12 million).

During the 2019 trial of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, his attorneys said that Zambada bribed the “entire” Mexican government in exchange for living openly without fear of being caught.

Jurors were told by Guzman’s lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman, IOC faces calls for investigation into inclusion of child rapist at Olympics “In reality, [Guzman] controlled nothing.” He asserted, “Mayo Zambada did.”

The US state department claims that Zambada owns real estate assets and a number of legitimate Mexican businesses, including “a large milk company, a bus line, and a hotel.”

In addition to the fentanyl charges, he is also facing drug trafficking, murder, kidnapping, money laundering, and organized crime charges in the United States.

Eliseo Imperial Castro, also known as “Cheyo Antrax,” Zambada’s nephew, was killed in an ambush in Mexico in May. Additionally, US authorities wanted him.

Zambada is without a doubt the most powerful drug lord in the Americas and the world’s largest.
He had sidestepped experts for a really long time, and in that capacity, his capture has come as a shock in Mexico.

Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of homeland security in the United States, stated in a statement that the Sinaloa cartel “pioneered the manufacture of fentanyl and has for years trafficked it into our country, killing

hundreds of thousands of Americans and destroying countless communities.”

“An example of the FBI’s and our partners’ commitment to dismantling violent transnational criminal organizations like the Sinaloa Cartel,” said FBI Director Chris Wray of the arrests.

President Joe Biden’s administration will undoubtedly hail Zambada’s arrest as one of the DEA’s most significant operations in years as more information becomes available.

Zambada helped to establish the Sinaloa cartel following the breakdown of the Guadalajara cartel toward the finish of the 1980s.

Although Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was the organization’s public face and the most well-known of the two men, many believed El Mayo was the organization’s true leader.

He was not only ruthless but also innovative. Netanyahu defends Gaza war as protesters rally outside US Congress  He established and maintained some of the earliest connections with Colombian cartels to deliver cocaine and heroin to the United States.
Fentanyl was added later.

His reign as head of the criminal empire has stood the test of time in the face of changing presidents in Mexico and the United States, as well as recurrent government efforts to combat drug trafficking and efforts by his adversaries in other drug-trafficking organizations to topple him.

In the violent, perilous, and treacherous underworld in which he has lived for many years as an unstoppable kingpin, that is no small feat.

However, El Paso, Texas, a city ravaged by the influx of the synthetic opioid fentanyl, much of which was smuggled in by his organization, appears to have exhausted that extraordinary resilience.
