Haunting Titanic Mirror newspaper article found in woman’s wardrobe

A newspaper from after the Haunting Titanic Mirror newspapeR sank has been discovered in a wardrobe.
The edition of The Daily Mirror from April 20, 1912, was found in a house in Lichfield, Staffordshire, after being hidden for 112 years. The newspaper features a photo of two women waiting for the list of survivors to be posted in Southampton.
The Titanic sank on April 14, 1912, after hitting an iceberg, and over 1,500 people died.
Hansons Auctioneers found the newspaper, and Charles Hanson, the owner, called it an “important piece of history.” He noted that while the Titanic disaster is well-known from movies and books, this find helps us remember the many people who were grieving.
The article Haunting Titanic Mirror newspaper beneath the photo of the women described the sadness in Southampton, where many of the Titanic’s crew lived. It told of the painful moment when families learned their worst fears had come true as the list of survivors was posted outside the White Star offices.
The newspaper, which sold for £34 on Tuesday, includes a double-page spread with pictures of some Titanic victims.
