Critical DMs: Chicago Mix, the Vince Vaughn of popcorn
Jacob Aloi: I was unable to acquire Chicago Mix despite my current location in Chicago. Vince Vaughn of popcorn Yet, I feel that is OK, thinking of it as isn’t actually from Chicago, correct?
Sparber: It’s not clear where the idea came from; mixed popcorn has been around for a long time. However, you are right: The name comes from Minnesota. Particularly, Candyland in Stillwater, Minneapolis, and St. Paul.
Garrett Popcorn in Chicago called their blend Chicago Blend, and Candyland sued.
Aloi: Chicago Blend shows improvement over “Twin Urban communities Blend.” I apologize, MSP metropolitan area.
Sparber: When they gave it its name, Candyland thought that. Chicago Mix simply resembles popcorn that you would want to consume.
We should depict it.
Aloi: A mix of cheese popcorn, Vince Vaughn of popcorn caramel popcorn, and what has been referred to as “seasoned” popcorn is Candyland’s Chicago Mix.
Sparber: The cheddar will be cheddar powder, and in case any flavor hesitant Midwesterners alarm about the flavoring, it’s popcorn oil and salt.
Hot pepper seasoning has been added to mixed popcorn before, but this is not like that.
Aloi: Indeed, salt is a seasoning; clever marketing!
Sparber: Here, no lies!
Aloi: The mix has a good balance of savory and sweet flavors, and the “seasoned” popcorn adds an extra kick of sodium, which I like.
Sparber: Definitely, it’s a staple in my home. I eat a great deal of it, my sweetheart eats a ton of it, and our canine harassers us to give him however much as could reasonably be expected.
Aloi: Do you have it throughout the year? Until I started working at MPR, where it is the preferred snack during meetings, I had always associated it with winter.
Sparber: Every time I pass Candyland, I get it. That happens quite frequently because I live close to downtown Minneapolis and there is a Candyland a few blocks from our St. Paul office.
Additionally, I purchase Chicago Mix imitations available at grocery stores. which have their advantages, but the majority lack the seasoned popcorn, creating a real conflict between sweet and savory flavors.
Aloi: Yes, I believe that the standard stuff is needed to cut through the stronger flavors.
Sparber: I concur. The Candyland version resembles the well-known Minnesotan version, despite its name.
I believe that concealing one’s Minnesotan heritage is uniquely Minnesotan. Similar to when Prince told Matt Damon that he lives in his own heart.
Aloi: Chicago Sound: the tyrant of snacks.
Sparber: That is an excellent slogan.
Aloi: Chicago Mix was formerly the name of the snack food.
Sparber: Chicago Sound: Matt Damon, it resides within your own heart. Vince Vaughn of popcorn
In fact, it more resembles Vince Vaughn. Despite the fact that he was born in Minneapolis, he maintains that he was raised in Chicago.
Aloi: Regardless, I believe Candyland has established itself as the most reliable supplier of Chicago Mix.
Sparber: By law!
It seems odd to me that while everyone was crazy about Jucy Lucy a few years ago, Chicago Mix doesn’t seem to have the same kind of local food cachet.
Aloi: Recognition of names. The title is ambiguous, making it highly marketable but preventing it from being a hometown hero.
Sparber: Yes, I suppose none of us would have discussed the Jucy Lucy if it had been referred to as the Santa Fe Lucy.
Chicago Mix is a giver and a taker away.
